Today, Ex Populus announces it has signed and funded its first game, LAMO, with plans to help the LAMO team expand the project into a full Metaverse. Ex Populus believes what the LAMO team have built is one of the most promising metaverse projects in the expanding game and collectible space and looks forward to bringing the project to millions of fans around the world.
What is LAMO?
The LAMOverse project is ambitious and created by a talented team of tinkerers and designers. This indy studio has been evolving and perfecting their full-scale metaverse ecosystem for the last few years. What began with a few big mobile game collaborations with high-profile influencers (see Smile Inc.) eventually evolved into an entire cast of the world’s most famous influencers coming together as playable characters in an open and expansive PC battle royale game.
Beyond the PC game, LAMO includes Vinyl collectibles that look nearly identical to the playable characters in the game. When the figures are scanned by the LAMO mobile app, an entire AR unboxing experience unfolds. The characters in the game, the vinyl figures and AR experience are all tied together with a QR code, so gamers and owners can bring their collection from one digital environment to the next.
A Brief History of LAMO
LAMO hit a snag in 2019 when they did the first early access release of their PC game. The team decided to do an early access release on Steam to start getting early feedback from players and to eventually prepare for a full launch. Unfortunately, the LAMO team was influenced by some shortsightedness that pushed the company to halt production and improvements of the PC game almost immediately after its early access release in favor of pursuing a mobile first strategy (gross!). In addition, the project was being vetted by one of the largest game publishers in the industry for a large advance, but those talks eventually fizzled as the pandemic took its toll in 2020 and the company eventually ran out of funds.
Most of the team from Ex Populus had met the LAMO team at some point in 2020, but Ex Populus the company didn’t exist yet. Around March of 2021 after Ex Populus had formed as an indie game publisher, NFTs started to get mainstream attention. It was immediately evident that the LAMO ecosystem was a perfect fit for web3, built around the collectible characters and vinyl figures leveraging NFT capabilities.
LAMOVerse — A Bright Future
The future of the LAMOVerse is near and bright. Behind the scenes, the LAMO team is working hard to re-launch a new LAMO mobile app to provide utility and gamification via AR integration with social networks. The Lamo team is also expanding their original Battle Royale game into an expansive survival-based openworld that should enter early access at some point in 2022. The Metaverse will be a new and separate title from the original Lamo game, which is now offline. If you don’t want to wait that long, no worries. The LAMOverse team will start dropping digital versions of new characters very soon on Ex Populus’ new NFT marketplace that will be available shortly. Keep an eye on the Ex Populus Discord. Later this year you can expect a whole new lineup of characters dropping that you will later be able to play in the LAMOverse. You can collect and trade LAMOs with your friends soon while you wait for the new Metaverse to become accessible next year.
We’ll see you there.
